Tortola, BVI — Sun, Aug. 17, 2025 (7:00 a.m.) — The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) says additional power outages are affecting communities on Tortola and the sister islands of Anegada, Jost Van Dyke, and Virgin Gorda, following Saturday’s earlier disruptions.

In a public update issued at 7:00 a.m., the utility linked the latest interruptions to the passage of Hurricane Erin, whose heavy rain and thunderstorms damaged infrastructure and caused equipment failure at the Wilfred Smith Power Station. BVIEC said the incident has slowed restoration efforts across the territory.

BVIEC stated that crews will resume restoration work early today, Sunday, as soon as weather conditions allow, with the goal of returning electricity to all homes and businesses as quickly and safely as possible. The corporation apologized for the inconvenience to customers and thanked residents for their patience while teams work through challenging conditions.
